Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater

The tour starts with a drive to Ngorongoro crater after breakfast. We arrive in time for a relaxing lunch at the lodge. After lunch, we l descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife for an afternoon game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is home to many different animals which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippopotamus, and giant African elephants.

This beautiful destination also has a dense population of predators which include lions, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard. We will also visit a large but shallow alkaline lake, ” Lake Magadi”, in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. You may see a large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds.

Dinner and overnight at Simba Camp

Day 2: Ngorongoro to Serengeti (Lobo area)

After breakfast, you will leave the highlands behind and then descend into the heart of wild Africa, “the Serengeti National Park”, with its endless plains. We will follow the route to the Lobo area which is situated north of the Seronera area (the central part of Serengeti National Park). The wildebeest migration normally passes through the Lobo area every year around July to August, en route to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve, and again in late October / November, en route to the southern part of Serengeti National Park.

Dinner and overnight at the Lobo camp.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, take in a game drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the southern plains of the Seronera River. Around the river, you are likely to see Lions, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich, and cheetah. The Visitor Center, which is close to the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites, is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive. This nicely designed center offers some interesting wildlife displays as well as a gift shop selling information leaflets and maps of the area.

The center also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, and includes a picnic area and information trail around kopjes. After lunch proceed with an afternoon game drive following the Kopjes Circuit, which goes counterclockwise around the Maasai Kopjes  This area attracts many lions and some formidably large cobras. The Kopjes are good for spotting wildlife, including lions, which like to hide in the Kopjes and wait for animals to come and drink water during the dry season!

Dinner and overnight in the Seronera area

Day 4: Serengeti (Lobo area)

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive in the Serengeti National Park around the Lobo area. Here we will see non-migrating games such as elephant, buffalo, gazelle, zebra, lion, leopard, and cheetah. The game viewing is very good and you can follow the game for long periods without seeing other vehicles. This is truly one of the forgotten corners of the Serengeti Plains. Magnificent trees grace the river  banks where bird life such as kingfishers and fish eagles can be viewed.

Dinner and overnight in the Lobo camp

Day 5: Serengeti (Lobo area) to Northern Serengeti

After breakfast travel with your guide to the far northern reaches of the Serengeti National Park, known as Wagakuria. As we are going north, we will have good sightings of giraffes, plain game, and herds of buffalo and elephants. After lunch at the lodge, we continue our game drive through the Wagakuria area. The wildebeest migration can normally be found in the Wagakuria area from August to October, depending on rainfall patterns. A long stretch of the Mara River runs through the northern part of the Serengeti National Park and the Mara River provides the migration with its most difficult obstacle. It is an unforgettable experience to witness the frantic herds of wildebeest crossing the Mara River.

Day 6: Northern Serengeti

After breakfast, we take a full-day game drive in the Wagakuria area. Resident wildlife numbers are always exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area, with a pride of lions but from August to October the area turns into a wildlife paradise. The key feature is the Mara River and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later.

The herds can be seen next to a river and only decide to cross or not cross until a couple of days later. This area is a stunning region with kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation, and open plains, similar to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 7: Northern Serengeti to Arusha Town

After breakfast at the camp, we drive back to Arusha town with a game drive en route.
